Travel Has Changed The face of travel has changed. Now, more than ever, know before you go. Before you head to the airport, use the phone or computer. Check with the airline to confirm check-in time requirements as well as possible flight changes, and check with the airport for information about parking and curbside drop-offs. Use the information you receive and don't second-guess the time frames you're given. You may not think that you should be at the airport four hours early, but this may be a security issue. To get through checkpoints quickly, pack light and stay organized. Nothing slows down a line more than an overpacked bag getting repacked. Air marshals will be aboard many flights and cockpit doors will be reinforced. Video cameras may allow pilots to monitor the passengers from the cockpit. Most travelers are very open about their lives and traveling plans. These days it is wise to hold back a little until you are sure about the questioner. At this time it is also probably better to play down your patriotism. If you're going abroad, leave the flag pins and flag tee-shirts at home. Steer clear of protests, no matter what your beliefs. Learn about the city you are visiting and avoid the areas that are known trouble spots. Drink in moderation and keep your wits about
you. Notify the embassy or consulate when traveling to an area that is on the State Department's list. Currently there is a worldwide warning.
