Scotlands Far North
By Joe Werner
The Royal Dornoch Golf Club, located about 60 miles north of Inverness, is ranked among the worlds top 12 courses. Many
local courses are far less expensive ($15 versus $50). We usually had a few sheep matching us stride for stride down the fairways. Expect to be greeted in
amazement by the locals as well.
See Stay on a Farm (found at almost any bookstore in Britain) to find these facilities. Cottages, which rent by the day or week for
$30-$40 a night, come with one or two bedrooms, bath, and kitchen (and most have a washer and dryer).
Working farms are usually within a stones throw of a town, which almost always has a great little pub. We often have our evening
meals in the main house. Not only is the food good, but so is the conversation with the family and various guests.
