Costa Rica in Depth
By Katherine Maris
For those wishing to learn about Costa Rica in depth, Comunicare is a unique alternative to the many commercial language schools in San Jose. Its flexible study programs are tailor-made for every individuals interests.
Lemus and Elizabeth Bromley created Comunicare to focus on cross-cultural communication and sharing. Lemus takes students to areas that visitors to Costa Rica do not normally see, such as orphanages, farms, and poor communities. He encourages students to interact with the Costa Rican people.
The center offers programs in Spanish language, Central American studies and culture, environmental studies, medical Spanish, volunteer work and high school teaching.
I have studied at Comunicare twice. The first time I taught English at a local elementary school as part of the centers volunteer program. This experience helped me land my first job as a Spanish teacher in the U.S. When I returned this past summer for graduate research, the school helped me find contacts and arrange interviews.
