IAMAT, The International Association for Medical Assistance to Travelers, www.iamat.org, maintains a network of physicians—general practitioners and specialists, hospitals and clinics around the world—who have agreed to treat IAMAT members (membership is free) in need of medical care during their journey.

Lonely Planet's Health Section, www.lonelyplanet.com/travel_links, provides sections with links to excellent information and publications on staying healthy while traveling abroad.

iJet, www.ijet.com, offers enterprise risk management technology and integrated crisis response services - protecting employees and assets around the globe. For a small fee iJet will email a local emergency number and anything pertaining to your destination–strikes, protests, and other abnormalities.

Overseas Security Advisory Council, U.S. Department of State, www.osac.gov, provides security-related information for the American private sector operating abroad, with updated information relating to safety and security in countries worldwide.

SmartTraveler.com, www.smartraveller.gov.au, published by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, www.dfat.gov.au, is the Australian Government's travel advisory and consular assistance service, with Travel Advisories for most countries worldwide.

Travel Alone and Love It, editor@travelaloneandloveit.com, www.travelaloneandloveit.com, is a free-access site that posts ten new solo-travel tips each month, and is authored by a flight attendant who has written a book by the same title. The site also provides safety tips, reader recommendations, Q&A, and plenty of resources for independent travel. Sharon B. Wingler also has also recently published a booklet, "114 Resources for Solo Travelers".
