Volunteer in Turkey  and work with a Non Profit Organization to provide services for the community. United Planet offers opportunities at Behice Eren Children and Youth Center. This is home to homeless children living on streets in Ankara, some of whom are rehabilitated because of substance addiction. They need love and care to regain their self-respect and trust to society. In order to achieve this end, the center provides them lodging, food and social activities.

Dates: Ongoing, start dates 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month.

Here is your chance to explore historic and beautiful Istanbul while working with children and staff at a Foster Care Home!
Work: The group will volunteer at a Foster Care Home which houses 28 children, ages 7-13. There are 4 “mothers” taking care of the children and 2 teachers overseeing their schooling. Volunteers will interact with children through activities and workshops to teach them English, dance, theatre, music, etc. Volunteers will need to get creative and have fun preparing workshops and sessions for the children. If the materials are ready in time, the volunteers may help put together a playground for the children.

Volunteer on Mediterranean Monk Seal Conservation and Marine Science Projects in Turkey

Immerse yourself in the life and work of a small team of marine biologists who are researching a marine protected area, (MPA), and working on the monk seal conservation project. Volunteers will have the unique opportunity to get involved in this pioneering conservation study in Turkey to protect the 300 remaining seals worldwide. By joining the project, you will have the exceptional opportunity to share a magnificent habitat with its last remaining marine inhabitants, whilst learning extensive field skills to study their ecology and behaviour. Apart from species conservation work, volunteers will also be involved in the monitoring of the MPA’s recovery, collection of empirical data to support scientific research and monitoring the invasion of the exotic species from the Red Sea and the effects of global warming in a Mediterranean habitat.

Dates: Volunteers are needed year round except July and August, unless a special field trip is organized separately during these months. The busiest time is between April and January when many volunteers are needed, while February and March tend to be quieter.
