ISSAC: Summer Programs in Norway and Sweden
Climate, Environment, and Me in Norway
The summer program takes you to southern Norway to explore ideas about living sustainably in the 21st century. Norway has an international reputation for environmental and global awareness. This climate-neutral program immerses you in the rural Norwegian community of Tørdal, where life is lived close to nature. You will see local examples of nature management, alternative energy, and waste and water management and discuss national policies and priorities. You will travel, explore, experience and discuss nature and culture along the western fjords, in agrarian Telemark, and while hiking on the spectacular Hardangervidda mountain plateau. Landscape Painting on an Island in the Sun in Sweden
The summer program introduces participants to watercolor landscape painting and glass blowing in several locations in Sweden. This unique 13-day program features cultural and recreational opportunities on Oland and concludes with a trip to Stockholm. The landscape painting portion of the program takes place at Capellagarden, a charming arts center on the beautiful island of Oland. Students will receive individualized painting instruction.
