Costa Rica

Affordable Spanish Programs: CRLA Costa Rican Language Academy. Costa Rican owned and operated language school offers first-rate Spanish instruction in a warm and friendly environment. Sustainable Living Center. Rancho Mastatal is a 219-acre environmental center bordering La Cangreja Rainforest Reserve. Offers customized educational programs for all ages, workshops in natural building, renewable energy systems, and tropical agriculture. Organic farming, gardening, and natural building methods practiced. Internships and volunteers encouraged. Beautiful waterfalls and swimming holes. Birds galore. Community focus.

Guatemala

Art Workshops in Guatemala offers approximately 15 courses each year. All courses are ten days in length, with four hours per day of formal class time. Courses are scheduled from late February to early November, but the majority occur during the late February-early April time period, ideal weather months sunny, warm (70 degrees F) days and clear, cool (50 degrees F) nights. Offerings include photography, drawing and painting, beading, paper and fiber arts, creative writing, and Mayan culture. Classes are limited to ten participants. Instructors are successful, well-established professionals in their fields. The mission is to provide a unique, insider's glimpse into Guatemalan life.

Honduras

Honduras Conservation Corps. Participants live with Honduran and international volunteers while working on environmental conservation projects to benefit small communities in rural Honduras. Two-week work camp setting. Registration for more than 1 camp accepted. Spanish language and knowledge of environmental issues are welcomed but not required.

Mexico

Cemanahuac Educational Community. Trips are highly educational, with college credit (graduate and undergraduate) available. Countries include Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, and Guatemala. Focus areas include history, anthropology, archaeology, social issues, cooking and cuisine, and popular and folk art. Previous groups include teachers, social workers, artists, senior citizens, chefs, museum members, alumni groups, and other adult participants. Each trip individually planned.

Guitar Vacation Retreats. A one-week guitar intensive in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, designed for adults of all ages, using the music of Mexico as the basis for instruction. The program is designed for students of all levels of ability and experience. Our mission is to give students the tools they need to play music with other people, as well as to immerse students in the culture and music of southern Mexico.

Mar de Jade Ocean-front Center, Chacala, Nayarit. Celebrating our 20th year as a center for responsible tourism, we are located in the fishing village of Chacala on its beautiful beach north of Puerto Vallarta. For 15-years, our volunteer/study program has been offering opportunities to guests to learn Spanish and put it to use in rural community volunteer projects, including a medical clinic, an after school program for children, a community kitchen and garden project, ESL classes, and house construction. Guests gain insight into local culture through volunteering. Surrounded by lush jungle with the warm, clear Pacific at our door, they enjoy swimming, surfing, hiking, horseback riding, snorkeling, kayaking, whale-watching, and other excursions. Our calendar of retreats include yoga, meditation among others as well as our teen summer camp.
