Volunteer on Construction Projects in Peru, South America This volunteer program is based around Colca Canyon near the town of Chivay, in the south of the Peruvian Andes. In this area the indigenous culture is still very strong. Here you will embark on building energy-efficient stoves within the homes of families in the community of Canocota. These benefit them by not only removing smoke from inside the house, but also by reducing the levels of wood consumption, and therefore the amount of local deforestation. During your time you will undertake 20 hours of one-on-one Spanish classes and head out on a three day trek in Colca Canyon. Volunteering in Peru — community development
Working with communities in the bio-hotspot of Amazonian Manu, this ongoing project is a sustainable initiative designed by the Manu project to boost local incomes, improve child and adult health and divert activity away from environmentally damaging sources of income. The project’s primary goal is to develop family biogardens and community fruit and vegetable plots — improving child and adult nutrition and enabling local families to improve their income through the sale of surplus produce.
Volunteers are needed to help in all aspects of the project — working with local producers to augment their practical skills and helping them develop effective interaction with local tourism markets – from providing basic English classes to helping write websites.
It would be a real advantage if volunteers can speak at least basic Spanish — but it’s not essential.
