Romania – community development and support
Volunteer in one of Europe's most beautiful countries — work with a community project, in support of their work to develop Down's Syndrome children to their full potential and to provide support to the families.
Romania is a country of great natural beauty and diversity with a rich cultural heritage — scenic mountain landscapes; unspoilt rural areas; historic cities — but broad economic poverty remains, especially in rural areas and in the south-east of the country.
Volunteers work with a Romanian charity, founded in 1991, which provides a thoroughly holistic approach to working with Downs children and their families. The programme involves all kinds of help and support – from early counselling for new parents of Downs babies, through assistance with integration into mainstream education, to play therapy and work therapy for youth and adults.
Such a varied programme welcomes a range of volunteer skills and experience — social work; special needs education; occupational therapy; physiotherapy; play therapy; sports, arts, crafts, cookery...
